The Vancouver and District Labour Council (VDLC), along with the BC Federation of Labour, will be participating in the Occupy Vancouver event at the Vancouver Art Gallery on Saturday, October 15th.  Similar events are taking place in hundreds of other cities and towns across North America.  They are inspired by Occupy Wall Street in New York, which has grown significantly over the past three weeks. This action is now supported by most major trade unions and the AFL-CIO.  As trade unionists, we share in the objectives of this movement: fairness, equality and opportunity in the economy and society. We too are part of the 99% in a society where 1% of the population holds an enormous share of the wealth.  We stand for peaceful protest, and urge VDLC affiliates to encourage your members to attend, and to bring union flags and banners to show our solidarity. The events are being organized by Occupy Vancouver, and additional details are available at www.occupyvancouver.com. They are inviting everyone to a general assembly at 10:00 am to discuss objectives. Your activists may wish to participate in this assembly, or join the event at noon when the BC Federation of Labour will assemble.
